I did it! If you’re following along from last month’s post, after an abysmal 0 words in December my goal was to get the entirety of chapter 10 done. And from the title, I’m sure you can tell how that worked out. So, let’s give you some details.
I finished chapter 10 and even made a little progress into chapter 11. All in all, I wrote just over 5,000 words this month, with the total word count at around 52,000 words. The funny thing is, I did it all in the past week. I’ve been so busy and so tired, I just never found the time to sit down and write until a few days ago. But finally, since January was ending, I sat down and had a few really good writing sessions and got it done. Just goes to show if I can find the will to sit down and concentrate without any distractions, I could have this entire book done in a couple months no problem. Easier said than done, so don’t go raising expectations here.
As for the chapter 10-specific details, it was very interesting to say the least. I ended up shifting the story a bit from my original outline because it just felt better with what happened at the end of 9. It had relatively the same result as I originally intended, but it took me a minute to get there. Plus, I ended up writing way more than I expected for the chapter and had to push the planned second half to chapter 11. I ended chapter 10 where it just felt right, so I’m not mad about it. But, depending on how chapter 11 goes, I may end up having to split another bringing the total chapter count from 17 to 18. Hey, whatever works for the story.
Moving on to what’s up next, I’m very excited for chapter 11. There has been a very creepy moment and aspect of the zombies that I’ve pictured essentially since the beginning, and we’re finally going to see it in action in 11. I’m hoping that gives me the stamina and excitement to get the whole chapter done this month, but there are some pretty big non-writing events coming up that will have to take precedence. Who knows, maybe I can get another full chapter done?
Until next time!
