Happy holi-delays

I’m rather proud of that title, just so you know.

Anyway, once again I have severely underestimated the effects of the holidays on writing productivity. Go figure. I don’t know what it is about the end of the year/around the holidays, but it apparently makes everyone need everything with a massive sense of urgency. At least that’s how it is for my job. Not only that, the whole family was taking turns being sick for a good week around Thanksgiving. On top of it all (and the reason this post is so delayed), Stormlight 5 released last week. Yes, I did finish it. Yes, I am still processing. No, I don’t think I’m quite ready to talk about it.

The good news is that I was still able to get some revisions done. I fully completed chapter 1 and got some headway into chapter 2 as well. This was mostly in that first week following my last post, so it’s been a hot minute since I’ve pulled it back up. I was, however, able to use my revision spreadsheet pretty effectively to make sure all the necessary early portions were put in where they belonged (like earlier foreshadowing, setting up a technology or possession of a weapon before it suddenly becomes prevalent to the story, etc.). I think this let me get more done than I normally would have in the time spent editing.

The bad news is that I fully expect December to be just as busy. Holiday plans, work deadlines, simple sheer exhaustion. You know the drill. I really want to get through chapter 2, what with it being a pretty long chapter, but I am fully cognizant that this may not actually happen. And I’m ok with that.

Sorry this update is so short. Until next time!
