I know, I know. This is over a week late. I have plenty of decent reasons for it, not the least of which is the fact that I’ve been out of the state for a week for business/vacation related purposes. In fact, I just barely got back and made sure to get this post out. You’re welcome.
I’ve been quietly dreading this month’s post anyway if I’m being honest. I did not get much done on draft 3. It isn’t really something unexpected as June is notoriously the busiest month for me and my family (a whole lot of birthdays, an anniversary, and vacations typically line up around this time). I also ended up getting some sort of stomach bug that had me puking my guts out AND some fun COVID moments with the kids (two separate occasions). However, I’m still kind of disappointed. I will still give an update on what I have, however short it may end up being.
Chapter 17 was finished up. I really like how it turned out, though it will present some rewrites in chapter 20 to make sure it ties together well enough. Chapter 18 was also good, though not as heavy of a rewrite which is always nice. Chapter 19 was the one I needed to heavily rewrite, adding in an important scene that was cut earlier on in this draft. Unfortunately, I also forgot just how long chapter 19 already was, so this chapter may end up having to be split into two or have some portions cut. I guess we’ll see with a draft 4(?) down the road.
And that’s where the writing ends. I didn’t quite get to the end of chapter 19, though altogether I revised roughly 18 pages this month. Not quite half of what I did in May, but again being out of commission for several weeks I feel like it’s understandable.
Another unfortunate blessing (strange way to put it, I know, but I’ll explain) was that the part was finally delivered to fix my car. So, I got my car back! Yay! But I won’t have that uninterrupted train writing time anymore. Boo. It’s going to be hard to go back to scheduling writing time on my own. It seems like by the end of the day, I’m so exhausted that I just want to fall asleep on the couch watching mindless YouTube videos (which is what I do most days). I guess I’m going to have to figure out a way to change that if I want this book done this year.
Here’s to hoping next month’s post is a bit more fruitful!
