Q: What kind of book are you writing?
A: That’s a question I’m sure many of you are wondering, seeing as there is little no information on this site so far.
I am writing a fantasy novel. It focuses on three main characters with two points of view and a magic system that will hopefully detail some interesting restrictions and abilities. The previous working title was Call of Destruction (which I’m not particularly fond of, but it was better than “Magic Story” as it was originally saved as on my computer). Now, the current title is Soulformer: The Serpent Isles. You can read a brief teaser summary here.
I’m planning on the story being a two book arc, but let’s focus on one step at a time.
Q: What made you decide to randomly write a book?
A: I’ve always had a dream to write and publish a book since I was a kid. With today’s technology and access to digital media, it’s easier than ever to make that dream a reality. That’s not to say it’s easy, as there is a LOT that goes into getting a book ready for the public (as I’ve come to find out), but it’s no longer that supposedly unreachable goal I’ve always thought it would be.
As part of my personal goals for 2020, I decided I wanted to write a book. It’s really that simple. I took one of the many ideas I have written down in my writing notebook and just started writing. Five months later (almost to the day, actually), I finished the first draft at around 97,000 words.
Q: When will your book come out?
A: That’s another great question. I am not a full-time writer, but I am a full-time attorney and a full-time dad. Because of that, I can only really write sparingly in my free time. I finished the first draft on June 8, 2020, but it’s far from ready. As of today’s date, I am fully in to the second of what I assume will be many drafts.
If you’re really chomping at the bit, you can contact me about being a beta reader, though I don’t currently have an expected date when that will be ready and I can’t promise that you’ll be included.
I’m going to try and keep the blog updated with status updates as I go, so stay tuned and consider subscribing for automatic updates sent to your email!
